F is for Future: How to Think About Public Media’s Next 50 Years

It’s no accident that many of the past decade’s crop of start-ups are nonprofits, have membership models, or were incubated in the public media system. They share a public-service mission, but their focus repeats the errors of NPR in the 1980s and 1990s (i.e. a content strategy that was most appealing to white, educated households with plenty of disposable income.)
